I.I.M.U.N. at the British Parliament

I.I.M.U.N. organized an unprecedented study tour for 100 leaders of tomorrow between the 24th - 30th of January 2024. The trip started with a visit to one of the best research universities, Imperial College, where the students interacted with deans and faculty members from different streams. The students then visited the British Parliament for a special session organized by Member of Parliament Bob Blackman, followed by tours of the Parliament chambers. The Republic Day celebrations started with the delegation officially being a part of the celebrations at the Indian High Commission. They then proceeded to King’s College for a brief tour. Before, in another, first and championed by Lord Jitesh Gadia, the India - UK Youth Summit 2024 was inaugurated on India’s 75th Republic Day inside the British Parliament.

The summit brought together 100 school students from 30 cities across India from various socio-economic backgrounds and around 30 school students from the UK to commemorate this occasion. The evening had an event organized by the London School of Economics, which included a university tour, unique interaction with senior faculty, and a reception in honor of the delegation.

The next day at the Nehru Centre, the students discussed ties between India and the UK and what our relationship will look like in 2047 regarding the economy, education, and environment. The students presented these solutions to Vikram Doraiswami, High Commissioner of India to the UK and then had an interactive session with him. On 28th January, the I.I.M.U.N. study tour to better understand educational best practices held events at Oxford University and took the students to see the hallowed Oxford library and some of their colleges. All events and engagements were curated to expose the students to Britain but from the Indian lens.

After visiting popular tourist attractions on 29th January, the students enjoyed some much-needed downtime at Madame Tussaud’s, Changing of the Guards at Buckingham Palace and then a Thames River cruise. Concluding on 30th January, the tour was also graced by various luminaries such as Chair of UK Investments Arm - Vindi Banga, Pravasi Bharatiya Samman Award Winner - Amit Lath, President of Overseas Friends of BJP UK- Kuldeep Singh Shekhawat, Head of Public Relations Hindu Swayamsevak Sangh - Vishal Shah amongst others.
