Why IIMUN August 2025 Is India’s Most Awaited Model United Nations Event

Model United Nations India has grown remarkably from just 4 cities to over 220 cities nationwide over the last thirteen years. The organization started with 1000 students at Mumbai’s World Trade Center in 2012. Today, it has become a movement that affects hundreds of thousands of students across the country.

The 2025-2026 season will be one of the most important yet, as MUN conferences are scheduled in more than 108 select Indian cities. Students participate in activities beyond traditional debates. They practice Yoga and Ayurveda while taking part in tree planting and community service projects. Previous conferences have demonstrated great success with participation from 72 schools worldwide. This makes it India’s most complete student leadership platform.

IIMUN’s Journey to Becoming India’s Largest MUN

Before 2011, only a handful of educational institutions in India offered Model United Nations programs. IIMUN changed everything by making this concept accessible to students throughout the nation.

Growth from 4 to 220+ cities

The story of IIMUN’s expansion showcases the power of youth leadership. What started in just four cities has now spread to more than 220 cities across India and 35 countries. The organization runs conferences in over 108 Indian cities and touches the lives of hundreds of thousands of students each year.

This growth stands out because all but one of these cities had never hosted a MUN conference before IIMUN stepped in. The organization’s hard work has brought together 100,000+ institutes, and they continue to support between 7,500-10,000 schools who keep taking them.
